The vision for Gort is of a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable town, steeped in history and character, with Market Square at its heart and access to green space and the Gort River. A desirable place to live, work, learn and visit.
The plan gives a background to Gort and outlines the process which has included a lot of public consultation, from which emerged the main development themes. These themes including :
- Reanimating Heritage
- Revitalizing Culture and the Arts
- Social inclusion, Community spirit and well-being
- Connectivity
- Repurposing vacant and derelict buildings
- Vibrant Local Economy
- Sustainable Urban Living
- Attracting Visitors
- Nature Environment & Biodiversity
- Re-imagining public spaces
These themes were discussed and then mapped into various projects which are the current focus of the development plan.
